Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Pittsburgh peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Do NOT come here. I was a patient for years. Came in for a cleaning in December, and they gave me x-rays a month before my insurance reset, so they werenβt covered, but thatβs not the worst part. I complained to the hygienist about sensitivity in one of my molars. She was dismissive and brushed it off saying everything was fine. The doctor wasnβt in, which was already weird to me, but they said sheβd call me about my x-rays. They never called me, so I called them. They said she said everything was normal. I got a second opinion and everything was not normal. The tooth I complained about had a ton of decay, and my molar needed reconstructed on one side. The new dentist said I will likely need a root canal on this tooth one day because of this cavity. Not only that, but I had three other cavities. I donβt believe the doctor ever looked at my x-rays. Horrible experience all around, I would never ever recommend this place to anyone.

I had a wonderful experience at Chestnut Hills Dental in Squirrel Hill. Everyone was super nice and since I scheduled my appointment I had the best customer service. First, all the ladies at the front office were really efficient and friendly. Then, Mahak took my X-rays and she took care of me and did an amazing job. She is really good. She was very careful and made me feel comfortable. Then, Dr. Nguyen was very kind and she listened to me, and responded to all of my questions. Then, Cassidy, she was absolutely amazing. She did my cleaning and took care of me gently and she did a fantastic job. Also, I had an excellent experience at the time of checking out. Everyone was super professional and efficient. I highly recommend this place.

Beware of Invisalign pitches from Dr. Dargan and Chestnut hills generally. Multiple staff members recommended it. A second opinion was sought and they is said it would be an overcorrection. My experience with Dr. Dargan was disappointing primarily because of the lack of communication and empathy throughout my implant treatment. This tooth has a long and complicated history, and I attempted to explain some of that background because it affects my anxiety around dental care. I did not feel that my concerns were acknowledged or discussed. During the implant appointment, I often did not understand what was happening or what the next step would be. For example, I was not aware that the implant would be fully tightened that day, and when I was asked whether I wanted the implant βtighter or looser,β I did not feel I had enough information or context to answer confidently. I became extremely distressed during the appointment and cried for an extended period of time. The dental assistant attempted to communicate my concerns, but I did not feel that Dr. Dargan addressed them directly or checked in with me about how I was doing. I was also concerned by the recommendation for Invisalign.

June 4 was my first visit to Chestnut Hills Dental in Squirrel Hill. The dentist and staff were all wonderful. The dentist who examined me was especially kind, gentle, and thorough. She continuously checked on me and asked whether I was feeling comfortable during the examination. My English is not very well, but everyone was very patient in explaining my dental issues and treatment options until I fully understood. I truly appreciate all the care and service I received here. I am very satisfied with my experience and would highly recommend this office. Thank you so much!

I was seen for a dental cleaning, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The reception staff were polite and cordial, the cleaning was performed by a highly skilled and incredibly attentive hygienist, and the final consultation with the dentist was both professional and gentle. Congratulations to the Chestnut Hills team! I am extremely satisfied with the care I received.
